Pablo's story

Pablo's Gallery and Frame Shop has been around in one form or another for 30 years, 27 of which were at its present location.

Pablo purchased his shop from its previous owner in July of 2007, after working at and managing the shop for 7 and a half years. During that time he honed his framing skills, learned how to run a world-class frame shop and moulded the business into what it has become today.

Pablo was born in San Francisco in 1969 and lived in Sausalito until the tender age of 4. He then moved with his family to Pacific Palisades, CA where he attended grade school, junior high and took summer art classes at local colleges. In 1983 Pablo's family moved back to Sausalito where he attended high school. After his folks saw his drawings on book-covers and pee-chee folders they encouraged him to start taking serious art classes. After graduating from high school in 1987 Pablo attended Sierra Nevada College(SNC), in Incline Village, NV, to study art. This is where Pablo's keen artistic sense was initiated. He studied all types and medium of art but really took to the Water Color mentoring of Madeline Bohannon and Freida Klein. He graduated from SNC in 1992 with a degree in art specializing in painting. Pablo returned to SNC in 1995 to complete his teaching credential studies and graduated in 1997.

After those college years Pablo was active in the local Tahoe art scene: organizing an art cooperative of 8 artists that occupied space at the Hendrickson building in Tahoe City; painting and selling his work at several local galleries; and adding his always positive energy to many up-and-coming artists around north lake Tahoe.

One major formative event of Pablo's was the passing of his mother, due to cancer, in 1991. She was scheduled to go on a major tour of Europe with his father later that year. Both Pablo and his father decided to not cancel the trip and spend some wonderful time together.Pablo toured Europe with his father and cousin, visiting every museum and art showing he could find and focusing his studies on one artist in particular, Albert Durrer. This trip reenforced his passion and appreciation for fine art and reenergized his own work.

Pablo's father has always been a major part of his life. In 1998 his father moved to Santa Barbara, CA, where Pablo would visit on a regular basis. The relaxed oceanfront, artistically-inclined community had a real influence on Pablo's love and appreciation of art. Unfortunately Pablo's father passed away due to ALS in the summer of 2008.

Pablo briefly moved to Seattle, WA, where he had the awesome opportunity to design and provide the artwork for an album cover for the band "Tigris Euphrates".

Pablo met the love of his life, Mary in 1997. They moved back to Seattle for 2 years and had their first child, Mikayla. They returned to the Tahoe area in 2000 and had their second child, Brandon, in 2005. They resided in the Truckee/Glenshire area for a time but now live on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.

Pablo definitely runs a family based business. Mary keeps an eye on the book keeping. Mikayla helps with keeping the shop tidy and clean. And Brandon keeps everyone on their toes! Pablo and his family enjoy the relaxing Tahoe lifestyle by skiing, hiking and of course lounging on the beach with friends.
